Belief

Definition: Having core values that influence my behavior and drive my decision-making.

Traits: Enduring, dependable, trustworthy

My first strength is Belief. This means that my morals and Christan beliefs guide every decision I make. A priority for me is that my work and hobbies must have meaning and a purpose. This is evidenced by my dream to be a graphic designer for a church. For years I have worked and volunteered to be a part of something bigger than myself, and most recently, I was able to intern with my outreach and communications pastor to revamp and elevate the kid's ministry's social media. The idea behind this is "why become a  graphic designer for a company when I can do what I love with a higher calling?" Whether it's topics for school papers, choosing an art project, or deciding what tattoo I want to get, my need for meaningful and important work overrides my need for "practical" success (money, recognition, prestige).

Relator

Definition: Being very good at understanding others and wanting to go deeper with the people who purposefully connect with me.

Traits: Deliberate, loyal, genuine

My second strength is Relator. I find great joy and strength when I can be around my close connections. I emphasize deepening relationships so that I can ask for help or be of help. This is coupled with how I express love according to 5 Love Languages. When I get to know someone, I will express gratitude and friendship by spending quality time with that person. By them being my main focus, it allows me to concentrate and learn what he or she likes, dislikes, and helps me get to know them better. Another way I show appreciation is through acts of service. This allows me to sacrifice my time, wants, and abilities so that I can prioritize others' needs before my own so that he or she will feel welcome, wanted, and valued; a stranger or friend.

Maximizer

Definition: I strive to be the best of my ability in everything that I do. I am compelled to nurture, cultivate, then refine my strengths so I can utilize them to succeed.

Traits: Capitalizer, focused, encourager

My third trait is Maximizer. I take advantage of the skill I have honed to be the best in my job. I strive to create and complete quality work so that others can reap its benefits without sacrifice. For example, I am enrolled in a class specializing in graphic design and social media. My competitive drive lets me work hard so that I can be trusted with bigger projects and responsibilities later. I feel uncomfortable with activities where I might need to learn from someone else because that means they have outworked me. However, I am drawn to, see much value in, and am impressed by those who have honed a skill and actively use it to make the world a better place. It means that that person is a hard worker who cares about what they bring to the table. This is something I actively strive to do.

Empathy

Definition: I have a knack for sensing emotions around me. I can help someone figure out a situation by putting myself in their shoes and sharing their perspective.

Traits: Understanding, empathetic, advisor

My fourth strength is Empathy. Whenever I am unsure how my actions might impact someone, I try to think about it through their eyes and then walk through the situation. I do this so I can better understand them and how I can be of help. I use this frequently when refereeing soccer. When a coach, parent, or player is confused and upset about a call, I can quickly see the situation from their perspective. This way, I can answer and act in a way that is most understandable to them. This is most helpful when de-escalating a tense situation where anger is most prevalent. Same with friends asking for advice or a peer asking for help. I try to anticipate their need and find the right phrases to help them express it so I can seem more reliable and understanding so they can come to me in the future.

Adaptability

Definition: I don't see the future as a one-path destination.

Traits: flexible, easygoing, down to earth

My fifth strength is Adaptability. Life is one big trip. You think you have to make it perfect, but in reality, the unexpected twists in the road are what make it fun! I have plans for my future, but when something doesn't go my way, I can alter my expectations and go along with the detours till I'm "back" on track. In a work setting, I am very flexible and can stay productive even when projects are pulling me in many directions at once. It may stress me out, but I am capable of remembering my goal and focusing on the tasks at hand. My favorite part of a road trip is ... the trip. Yes, the destination is exciting and worth the time off work, but the drive, plane ride, and walk are all that make the journey worth it! If a friend requests a stop at the largest rocking chair in the world... sign me up! All the unexpected diversions and roadblocks make for a great story.

Education

Personal Narrative

As a kid, my mom was my elementary school art teacher. She volunteered to show us artists from the past, pop culture, historical masterpieces, and how our art can be beautiful just like Monet, Van Gogh, and Warhol's work. Of course, this meant art was a part of everyday life at home. And in my free time, I started to cultivate a love and passion for creating and bringing thoughts of color and tools to fruition.

At the same time, I was helping out at church, playing with the toddlers in the kid's ministries, watching the babies after service, and babysitting my sisters when my parents went on a date. I quickly learned that coloring books and crafts kept any kid occupied. Once that kid showed their parents their beautiful work, the smiles all around left a lasting impression on me. My realization? Art is crucial to society, and every person's life.

As I got older and took more art classes and created more at home, I started using art as a stress reliever and outlet to express myself to others. I was thoroughly encouraged by my parents and friends. I realized how satisfied I was when I finished a piece, and got to share it with others. My confidence would fly through the roof. When buying my first Ipad and receiving my first Apple pencil, I couldn't stop creating! Every day was something new! From sticker designs and logos to birthday presents and promos, I couldn't get enough of the online creative outlet. I wanted to use art to live life to the fullest.

Now, as I plan for my future, art is still a big part of my life. Between creating content for my youth group, being enrolled in a college design class, and interning with our communications pastor to build up the kid's ministry Instagram, art has woven itself into my every day. When working in groups for a school project, I am the one setting the theme of the slideshow, or choosing the pictures for the front covers of presentations. When volunteering for Vacation Bible School, I set out the crafts, painted the set, and enjoyed explaining what crazy creation was on the schedule. Because of my early exposure to art's amazing powers, I figured out a way to incorporate it into my social and school life, and now, I want it to be a part of my professional life.

After having experience in content management for Meadow Park Church, I saw firsthand just how fun and different every post can be. Each recommendation, suggestion, and comment is an exciting message because I get to design a piece of content that can help a person, business, or organization. It's a challenge that I love to accept because I now have to think outside of the box and put together something that no one has ever seen before! I was a part of something bigger than myself. I was working toward a mission with others with the same mindset and goal... and it felt amazing.

Art has always been a huge part of my life, and now, I want to make sure it always will be.
